Topless Protesters At The World Economic Forum

It’s a very big international conference being held in Davos, Switzerland. It was interrupted by three topless Ukrainian women on Saturday. Their bodies were painted with protest slogans and they carried signs.

It’s never a dull moment on the world’s stage. Usually topless or naked protesters are ranting about animal rights or too many furs in the world. This time these three were trying to get the attention of international CEOs and political leaders to call attention to the needs of the world’s poor.

In the freezing cold and snow of Switzerland, they pulled their shirts off to show slogans that said, “Crisis! Made in Davos, Poor, because of you” and “Gangsters party in Davos.”

Davos police promptly arrested them. They are from a group called FEMEN, which is known for it’s partially clad protesting efforts involving a range of political issues.

“We came here to Switzerland to Davos to explain the position of all poor people of the world, to explain that we are poor because of these rich people who now sit in the building,” said Inna Schewcenko.

The conference continued peacefully and Police have already released the women.

NASA And The Nation Remember It’s Fallen Astronauts

It’s an interesting aspect of America’s space program. Within a week’s time, and over a fifty year span, the anniversaries of NASA’s worst accidents have taken place. A wreath laying ceremony took place last week to honor and remember those men and women who have lost their lives in the space program throughout those years.

The most famous of those accidents include the Apollo 1 fire that occurred during a dress rehearsal for a launch on pad 34 at Cape Canaveral on January 27th, 1967. That day, a flash fire in the Apollo command module claimed the lives of astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee.

Then, on January 28th, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after lift off from launch pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center. All seven of the astronauts that day were killed. A faulty rubber O-Ring in the SRB was to blame.

Just a few days later, on February 1, but in 2003, space shuttle Columbia was destroyed on re-entry due to a one foot gash in her left-wing that occurred on lift off from Kennedy Space Center’s launch pad 39A. Again, seven astronauts were killed in that tragedy.

It’s ironic that these three of the most famous space tragedies all occurred within a few days of each other, but years apart.

Last Thursday, NASA held a wreath laying ceremony at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to honor and remember these astronauts and other members of the American space program who have lost their lives. They boldly went to where no one had gone before and we sincerely appreciate their commitment and their sacrifice.

Katy Perry May Be Looking Blue-But She’s Not Feeling Blue

With her soon to be divorce from Russell Brand, Katy Perry hasn’t been letting the collapse of her marriage get to her. She was just out at the opening of a new night club in Las Vegas on Friday night.

Apparently, with a lot of people. Perry was all smiles on the Las Vegas red carpet at club 1 OAK, promoting Haiti’s public health organization, GiveLove.org.

In the photo above, Katy was caught in a tight little black dress arriving with actor/jewelry designer Markus Molinari.

This is her first red carpet appearance since the announcement of her separation from soon-to-be ex-husband, Russell Brand.

It seems that she can’t wait to be a single woman again. She has already unfollowed her ex on Twitter.

Burt Reynold’s Old Jupiter Farms Ranch For Sale Again

It’s Burt’s old home in Jupiter Farms. When Loni took off and Burt’s finances went south as well, he sold the 153 acre t.v. set/ranch to the Palm Beach County School Board for $3.85 million.

The school board bought the ranch in 1999 with the intentions of building a middle school on the property. Soon after the sale, the economy went belly up and the school board delayed plans to build the school. Now, the school board says that they need to sell.

Recent enrollment projections indicate that the town of Jupiter won’t need a middle school for at least another 10 years. The district has also said it has neither the money nor the intention to build any new schools for at least that long.

So, the place is on the market again. The school board will sell all or part of the land. They would like to retain at least 40 acres of the ranch to eventually build a middle school there at some point.

It’s current estimated value is around $4. million.

Sales of Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ Go Through the Roof Thanks to Barack Obama

When President Barack Obama stopped by New York’s Apollo Theater last week for a fundraiser, he had a little fun and went acapella when he saw soul crooner Al Green in the audience. He serenaded the crowd with a few lines from the Reverend’s classic hit “Let’s Stay Together,” the internet had some fun, and we thought that would be the end of it.

But to our surprise, he ended up putting a little extra change in Al Green’s pocket. Sales of “Let’s Stay Together” increased by 490%!

Green’s track, which was originally released in 1971, sold over 16,000 downloads in the week ending January 22nd, a 490% increase from the previous week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Prez even showed the Reverend some love by saying, “Don’t worry Rev, I cannot sing like you, but I just wanted to show my appreciation.”

Maybe Green needs to show Barack a little appreciation now. Take him out to dinner, or at least a nice “Thank You” card… you know, for the effort.
